Sustainability at Norling Studio
Products made with care – from clay to the dinner table
At Norling Studio, sustainability isn't just a buzzword – it's a fundamental principle that guides how we choose our partners, design our products, and build for the future. Our production partners have different working methods but share the same conviction: to take responsibility for the environment, work ethically, and think long-term.
We collaborate with selected factories, each contributing to our common goal: to reduce waste, save energy, and create durable products with as little environmental impact as possible.
Natural materials - Thoughtful design
- All our products are made from natural raw materials that are safe for both people and the environment.
- Locally produced clay reduces transport emissions and strengthens the local community.
- The glazes used are 100% food-safe, EU/US certified, and contain no harmful chemicals.
- Each product has a long lifespan and is designed to last for generations.

Smart and Circular Production
The factories we work with use modern methods that minimize climate impact:
- Waste is recycled – clay waste, discarded products, and water are reused.
- Heat recovery – heat from the kilns is used to dry products and heat premises.
- Energy-efficient kilns and the use of solar cells reduce gas consumption and emissions.
- Production waste is carefully sorted and reused in other industries.

Sustainability also means caring for people
A product is not sustainable if it is produced at the expense of people's well-being. Therefore, we only work with factories that care for their employees.
- Paying fair wages above the minimum wage, and having an inclusive and gender-neutral workplace.
- Automating heavy and monotonous tasks to reduce strain injuries.
- Supporting the local community through donations and social initiatives.
A Continuous Effort
Our partners are at the forefront:
- The factory that manufactures our porcelain products is certified according to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, SA8000 and is a member of Sedex with SMETA audits.
- Our primary stoneware supplier collaborates with universities and researchers to develop new methods for low-energy firing.
