La Gondola, Åre
Norling Studio was given the great and honorable task of developing a tableware concept and a bespoke pattern for La Gondola in Åre.
The team behind this awesome restaurant knew exactly what vibe they were after and needed someone who could bring their idea to life.
After various briefing meetings, wonderful creative hours of sketching possible patterns followed, both by hand and digitally. Different approaches were presented to La Gondola before the final direction could be decided upon and taken forward.
The ultimate shapes in the correct sizes for La Gondola were developed and the floral pattern was applied and adapted to the different conditions. We chose to make the dinnerware from porcelain, partly for the feel, but also because durability was important – these items would be used very frequently and over a long period and needed to withstand the stresses that a restaurant kitchen of this type entails.
The floral pattern with elements of spirited roosters has become an important part of La Gondola's branding and contributes to high recognition (you've probably seen it on Instagram). The logo is tastefully integrated on one of the plates to reinforce the branding. The restaurant offers both à la carte and "tray lunch" and, in agreement with their wishes, two concepts were developed – a simpler one and a more elaborate one, both with the same feel and shared components for clear cohesion. The color choices in the pattern are carefully balanced and recur in other parts of the restaurant's interior and aesthetics.
Located at an altitude of 834 meters with an outstanding view, breakfast, lunch, and à la carte are served. The food is awesome, the service is on point and personal, and during high season, La Gondola Live Sessions with truly impressive line-ups are held. A must-visit if you're in Åre!
