Sustainability

Made with care – from clay to the finished product on your table
At Norling Studio, sustainability isn’t a buzzword – it’s a core principle guiding how we choose our partners, design our products, and build for the future. Our production partners work in different ways but share the same belief: to take responsibility for the environment, operate ethically, and think long-term.

We collaborate with selected factories, each contributing to our shared goal: reducing waste, conserving energy, and creating long-lasting products with as little environmental impact as possible.

Natural Materials – Thoughtful Design
All of our ceramic products are made from natural raw materials that are safe for both people and the planet, with minimal processing.

  • Locally sourced clay reduces transport emissions and supports local communities.

  • Glazes are 100% food-safe, EU/US certified, and free from harmful chemicals.

  • Every product is built to last and designed to endure for generations.

Smart and Circular Production
The factories we work with use modern methods to minimize climate impact:

  • All waste is recycled – clay scraps, rejected items, and water are reused.

  • Heat recovery – heat from the kilns is used to dry products and warm the facilities.

  • Energy-efficient kilns and the use of solar panels reduce gas consumption and emissions.

  • Production waste is carefully sorted and repurposed in other industries.

Sustainability also means caring for people
A product is not sustainable if it comes at the expense of human well-being. That’s why we only work with factories that care for their employees.

  • They pay fair wages above minimum wage and offer inclusive, gender-neutral workplaces.

  • Heavy and repetitive tasks are automated to reduce injury and strain.

  • They support the local community through donations and social initiatives.

An ongoing effort – Our partners are ahead of the curve
The factories that produce our porcelain items are certified under ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, SA8000, and are members of Sedex with SMETA audits.
Our leading stoneware supplier works with universities and researchers to develop new low-energy firing techniques.
